Workshop

                     Collaboration with Mithila Art

The contemporary world is emerging with new conscience that is developing with the newly found sense of individuality and search of freedom. In this process artists are employing multiple mediums and are traveling foreign countries and cultures to certify their visionary expressions. This pursuit has undoubtedly contributed in building up a collective understanding of the concept of universe and existence in general. However, today, local culture and nativity of various nations are also adding up in the world art dimensions giving the idea of art a broader magnitude. In this regard Bindu organized two weeks workshop at Janakpur, a Tarai region in Nepal2006. Janakpur is very popular in Nepal for its unique cultural and traditional artistic aspects. This workshop by Bindu attempted to bring in the attitude and patterns of folk art of Janakpur in the contemporary art. For that we invited two artists from Bangladesh, there were two artists from Nepal and five folk artists from Janakpur. The basic idea was to initiate creative interaction, share their mind frame and see what the output would be. The result was compelling and quite new in the contemporary art sector. The folk artists of Janakpur were equally excited. Later the artworks were exhibited at Siddhartha Art Gallery, Kathmandu.

                  Folk and Traditional Art

                                                Nepal/ Bangladesh/ India/ Tibet.

Bindu in support of Art Network Asia is commencing its latest project “Collaborative workshop and research 2008”, where it exercises with advanced art attitude to understand the elaborate aspects of Local Art Forms (Traditional and Folk Arts) that have been breathing in Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Tibet from long ago. This program intends to rediscover the enchantment of Mithila, Madhubani, Pauwa, Thanka and Rickshaw Art, and search for the source to inspire and fuse with the contemporary arts in order to discover the “New Breed of Art” which might be simpler, symbolical yet easily understandable.  The intention behind all this is not only to comprehend, introduce and strengthen art from the local level but also to involve the locals themselves to ignite the vigor of creativity within them.

To meet with this objective, Bindu has summoned as many art practitioners and art lovers as possible. From Art Experts to Local Artists and Fine Art Students and also school students, all have gathered in a common ground to unearth the Art that breaths within us all!

We have done a 7 day long workshop with Modhuban (India), Mithila (Nepal), Paubha (Tibet), Thanka (Nepal) and Rickshaw (Bangladesh) artists from 20-26 May 2008 at Kathmandu.
